ietyofCanadaFNCFCSandtheAssemblyofFirstNationsAFNdismissedonlegaltechnicalities.ThetwoAboriginalorgani-zationsallegethattheGovern-mentofCanadaunder-fundschildwelfareservicesforFirstNationschildrenon-reserveleadingtolesserornoservicecomparedtotheprovincialstandard.TheinequitiesinFirstNationschildwelfarehavebeenwelldocumentedbytheAuditorGeneralofCanadaandothers.TheGov-ernmentofCanadafundsandisactivelyinvolvedintheon-reserveprogram.Toghtincourtatthecostofmillionsofdollarsagainstthewell-beingofourchildrenisaninternationalembarrassmentforallCana-dians.Theresourcescouldhavebeenputtobetteruseinaddressingtherealityonthegroundratherthanarguinglegaltechnicalitiesthatwouldallowthefederalgovernmenttocontinuetoshirktheirre-sponsibilityBeardysaid.TheChiefsofOntarioisapoliticalforumandasecre-tariatforcollectivedecisionmakingactionandadvocacyforthe133FirstNationcom-munitieslocatedwithintheboundariesoftheprovinceofOntarioCanada.
