ngov-ernmentcareandthefailingsoftheeducationandeconomicsystems-thelistgoeson.Forrealchangetohappenthatparadigmshiftshetalksaboutisneededeverywhere.FirstNationspeoplearemarginalizedacrossCanada.EvenintheNWTwherethereisamajorityofAboriginalrepresen-tationinthelegislaturecolonialthinkingisstillapparentinhowgovernmentsoper-ate.OnlywhenFirstNationsgovernmentstructuresstartingwithcommunitycoun-cilsarerespectedandthusempoweredwilltheybeabletobeengagedinsolu-tionsfortheillstheyaremiredin-anes-sentialingredientforsuccess.LookatthewayFredSangrisformerchiefoftheYellowknivesDenewastreatedlastweek-nedforcuttingrewoodashehasbeendoingallhislifetoheathishomeinNdilo.HiscasewillbefoughtincourtonhisAboriginalrighttoharvestwoodbuttheissuerunsmuchdeeper.AsDeneNationalChiefBillErasmuspointedoutifwhereorhoworwhySangriswascuttingwoodwasinanywayinappropri-atethemattershouldhavebeentakenupwithhisowngovernmenttheYellow-knivesDeneFirstNation.TheapproachbythegovernmentoftheNWTwhethertowardSangrisorkidsincareistoooftenacontinuationoftheremnantcolonialmentalityfromahun-dredyearsago.CanadasAboriginalciti-zensneedtobedealtwithbyAboriginalgovernments-theirway-tosuccessfullyaddresstheirissues.LocalFirstNationsauthoritieshavetobeengaged.Thatwillonlyhappeniftheyareempowered.Theywillbecomeempoweredonlyiftheyarerespected.Theonlywaytheywillbere-spectedisiftheyareincludedinthepro-cessofgovernance-allofit.ParadigmshiftneededforFirstNationsPhotoBillBradenMorethan60YellowknifersjoinedtogetherSundayforthecityssecondannualMultipleSclerosisWalkandRuneventlinkingwithsome40000Canadiansin160townsandcitiesinanationwidecampaign.Theywalked1-5kmcoursesthroughdowntownYellowknifeshruggingoff-10Cweatherandraisingmorethan25000.MSisadebilitatingandunpredictablediseaseofthecentralnervoussystem.TheCanadianMSSocietysaysabout100000Canadianshavethediseasewhichstrikesanother1000Canadianseveryyearoneofthehighestratesintheworld.MSWalkersraisedollarsawareness
