A Fort Smith man was killed in a car accident last Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. while en route to Canmore, Alberta.
Greg Kosztinka passed away on the scene after his car hit a moose on Highway 35, 20 km south of High Level. He was 34.
No one else was in the vehicle.
An RCMP staff sergeant from Yellowknife on his way north witnessed the tragedy, reporting that the accident was sudden and unavoidable.
Kosztinka was on his way south to join his family for their annual Thanksgiving gathering in Canmore.
Originally from Bruderheim, Alberta, Kosztinka began visiting Fort Smith in his late teens, eventually becoming a resident and an employee of Aurora College’s head office where he worked as the Marketing and Communications Officer.
He was best known for his unique sense of humour.
It is a particularly dangerous time for moose on the roads, as they are in rut and on the move.
