Youth injured in Fort Chip stabbing

Two 17 year-old boys were seriously wounded in an attack with an “edged weapon” late on the night of Sunday, October 16 in Fort Chipewyan.

The victims, whose names cannot be released because they are minors, were both flown to Northern Lights Hospital in Fort McMurray, where one remains in serious but stable condition.

The other boy has been treated and released.

Police said they were called to the scene at approximately 3:15 a.m. after they received a call that a fight had broken out among a number of youth near the arena on Cardinal Avenue.

Fort Chipewyan RCMP currently have a 15 year-old suspect in custody. The investigation is ongoing.

Police are requesting that anyone with information contact the Wood Buffalo RCMP at (780) 788-4000 or anonymously with Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477 (TIPS).

Alberta has the sixth highest level of reported assaults with a weapon in the country, according to Statistics Canada.

There were 6,736 reported incidents of assault with a weapon in Alberta in 2009.
