A 53-year-old Inuvik man is awaiting trial after RCMP discovered 1.5 pounds of marijuana in a local residence on Oct. 4.
The suspect, whose identity is being withheld, was released to appear in court on Jan. 29, 2013. He has been charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Cpl. Barry Ledoux told The Journal that the bust was substantial, by territorial standards.
“We’ve cut off a substantial supply to the North, basically. We can’t say if it’s destined to Inuvik or other places within the territory, but what I can say is that a drug bust this substantial is going to have an immediate impact on Northern communities, being that it’s taken that much marijuana off the streets” he said.
Ledoux could not say if the individual was the lone person behind the operation, but noted the investigation is ongoing. Inuvik RCMP are asking anyone with information relating to this matter to contact the detachment at 867-777-1111 or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
