A man is recovering in Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife after a stabbing incident outside a bar in Fort Smith early Friday morning.

RCMP responded to a call around 2:06 a.m. about a wounded man in the parking lot outside The Landing lounge. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Lars Rusch, 20, has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was held in custody and appeared in court Monday.

Cpl. Todd Scaplen, RCMP media relations with the G division in Hay River, said details about the weapon used for the stabbing are not known.

“It was some sort of bladed object. That is all I know at this point,” Scaplen told The Journal Monday.

It is also not being released at this time the number of stab wounds the man received.

Mathieu Doucet of Fort Smith was inside the bar when the incident took place. When he left, he saw the man on the ground in the parking lot.

“I noticed an individual was bleeding and CPR was being provided by two other men. I assisted them to help stop the bleeding until the paramedics arrived,” Doucet said.

The man was taken by ambulance to the Fort Smith Health Centre and later medevaced to Yellowknife.

If any members of the public have information about this incident, they are asked to contact the Fort Smith RCMP at 867-872-1111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
