Blasting at Stanton starts Monday

Christmas in Yellowknife is going to be a blast.

Blasting at the site of the new Stanton Territorial Hospital will start on Nov. 30 and continue for 14 weeks, according to the GNWT.

Residents will hear up to 20 blasts between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. every day of the week except Wednesday and Sunday. There will be blasting on Dec. 2.

“Vehicle and pedestrian traffic may be temporarily disrupted due to blasting activities,” a press release reads. “Flaggers will be stationed on all roadways passing within 100 feet of the blast area to stop all traffic during blasting operations. The disruption to traffic flow is expected to be approximately one minute or less.”

Parking on Byrne Road will also be prohibited beginning Nov. 30.  Barricades will be put in place and hospital users and staff will be required to park in other locations. Vehicles parked on Byrne Road will be ticketed and towed.
