rontheWrigleyspillincreasedsafetyauditsonEnbridge.ThecompanysculturehasundergoneaseachangesincethespillsatKalama-zooandWrigleyWhitesaid.WehavelearnedagreatdealfromourrecentpastwitheventsWhitewroteinareplytoemailedquestions.Wehavepreparedafairlycomprehensivelistoflessonslearnedandthequantiableactionswearetakingandhavetakentoemergeasabettercompanywithapipelinesystemofveryhighintegrity.Amongtheinnova-tionsWhitedescribedareoverlappingleakdetectionmethodspressurechangesandvolumeinconsistenciesforexamplealongwithourpublicawarenessprogramtodetectthepresenceofleakswithinthesystem.LeaksbelowthethresholdofthemonitoringregimeinEdmontonsuchassomepinholeleakswouldbedetectedbysurveillanceandthirdpartyreportsorthroughregularin-lineinspectionWhitewrote.Thisisoneoftherea-sonswepromoteaware-nesstrainingandprepa-rationalongourright-of-waycommunitiesandwithemergencyservicestoen-hancethiscapabilityandreducerisksandimpacts.LastyearEnbridgein-troducedintegritydigstotheNormanWellspipe-lineasanongoingfeatureofouroverallpipelinein-tegrityprogramandcom-mitmenttothesafetyandsecurityofthoselineses-peciallyinidentiedsensi-tiveenvironments.Wheretodigandhowmanyholesisdeterminedbyin-lineinspection.LastyearEnbridgecrewsmade19digs.Thisyear175work-ersareexpectedtocomplete44byApr.30covering680kmofthe869kmline.Earlylastmonthacrewencounteredpotentiallycontaminatedsoil60kmand120kmwestofFortSimpson.Therewasnofreeproductrequiringre-covery.Thepipelinewasshutdownasaprecaution-arymeasure.TherewerenowildlifeorwaterimpactsWhitesaid.Wearelookingatin-creasingthisnumbertomorethan200digs.Sinceintegritydigsincludemon-itoringupkeepandrepairorreplacementofthepipewhererequireditcontinu-allyincreasesoursecurityandintegrityofthisline.TheinspectionprogramresonatesfarbeyondtheNorthernbushandthemoni-toringcentreinEdmonton.EnbridgehasinvestedheavilyintheNorthernGate-waypipelinewhichwouldcarrybitumentoAsianmar-ketsviatheBCcoastandifthelatestNormanWellsdiscoverylivesuptoenthu-siasticforecaststheremaybedemandforanotherlinesouth.EnbridgewalksthepipelineIndustryOilGas
