ThoughWepossessthesesection35Aboriginalrightsandtheyhavetoberespected.BillEngeNorthSlaveMtisAllianceAboriginalrightsbutwastoldtojoinupwiththeNWTMtisNationslandandre-sourceagreement-currentlybeingnegotiatedwithOt-tawa-tohavethoserightsaddressedbuthesaidthatsabsurd.OurpositionisthattheMtisusedandoccupiedalloftheGreatSlaveLakearea...andIhavearighttohavemysection35AboriginalrightsrespectedonthenorthsideofGreatSlaveLakeifthatswhatIwishtodohesaid.NSMAdropsconsultationlawsuitTheNSMAhasdroppeditsfirstJudicialReviewledagainstthegovern-mentsofCanadaandtheNorthwestTerritoriesinJanuaryoveranallegedNSMAhasrequestedanadditionalthreemeet-ingsithasyettoreceivearesponsefromAANDCwhichcouldleadtofurtherconflictwithCanada.Oneconsultationmeet-ingattheeleventhhour...isinsufcientinadequateforustounderstandthebreadthandthedepthofthisagreementEngesaid.Welljustlettheministerdecidewhatheoughttodoregardingwhetherornottoholdadditionalconsultationmeetingswithus.Butin-deedwebelievewehaveastrongcasethatwewereinadequatelyconsultedregardingthedevolutionagreementbecausetheministercobbledtogetheraconsultationmeetingatthelastminute.PhotoMeaganWohlbergNorthSlaveMtisAlliancepresidentBillEngewantsthecourtstodecideontheirstatusasadistinctAboriginalgroup.
