gestissuewiththatdancewhenwerethereistryingtokeepthekidsthatarenotallowedtobetherefromcomingin.Alotoftheyoungkidstheyreprettyannoyedwithuswhenwedontletthemin.ThelocalRCMPinitiatedthedancethreedecadesagotocurbthemanytricksthatwouldtakeplacearoundHalloweenfromeggingandtoiletpaperinghousestoslashedtiresandbrokenwindows.WetakeitasanopportunitytojustminglewiththekidsonamorecasualbasisandImeanitscomfortingfortheparentstoknowthatthekidsarethereandsupervisedBecksaid.Anytimethatwecanhaveinteractionswiththekidsthatarenotinaprofessionalornegativenatureitsalwaysgoodforustooandthemaswell.WhiletheHalloweenmischiefisntto-tallyquelledbythedanceprovidingasupervisedalternativedoescutdownonthenumberofincidentspolicehavetoworryabout.ObviouslywellhaveguysthatwillbeworkingandtheyrestillresponsiblefortakingcareofthetownofHayRiverbutalotoftheguyswilldressup-anyonethatsoffdutyBecksaid.Itsvolunteer100percentwerenotcompensatinginanywayforit.EveryyeartheSpooktaculardancere-ceivestonnesofsupportfromthecommunityBecksaid.FoodanddrinksarealldonatedbyHayRiverbusinessesandtheprizesarepurchasedwithdonationscollectedbytheRCMPmonthsinadvance.Ithinkthetownrecognizeshowmuchtimegoesintoitonourpartitsalottoor-ganizeBecksaid.Becausetheeventissosuccessfulwerehavingtoreachouttootherorganizations.TheHayRiverredepartmentisalwaysreadytostepinandgiveahandandvolunteerandchaperoneandthisyearwehaveacoupleofthelocalgirlscomingintoassistuswiththegames.TheSpooktacularisfreetoattend.ItwilltakeplaceHalloweeneveningfrom800p.m.tomidnight.IsittimetoupdatethatactsothatthecommissionismorerelevanttopeopleintheNorthwestTerritoriesCharlesDentNWTHumanRightsCommissionAboriginalrapperKASPistouringschoolsinHayRiverBehchokoInuvikandNdilothisweekaddressinghowbullyingandharassmentareviolationsofhumanrights.PhotocourtesyofNWTHumanRightsCommission
