choolsandthevariousformsofphysicalsexualandotherabuseatthehandsofperverseindividualsthatsomanychildrensufferedfromwhilekeptinthoseschools.Thefirstissomethingthatmustbeaddressedovertime.Nosuchcolo-nialattitudesandpracticeswilleverbetoleratedagain-thatseemstobeafirmcommitmentbyallCanadians.Thelatterwellitisuncertain.ThevulnerablechildrenwhosufferedatthehandsofdeviantsarenowadultsandlikevictimsofPTSDsomemayrequireongoingtreatmentovertime.Thereal-mostcertainlywillbenoplanforthatoncetheTRCisdone.Thematterwillretreattotheshadowsthevictimswillfallthroughthecracksandthedam-agedonewillliveonfordecades.Itwillbeanotheronthelistofissues-alongwithhousingwaterthatisnotfittodrinkandeducationtonameafew-forFirstNationCanadians.Itneednotstopayearfromnowbutgovernmentscanonlydosomuch.Apossiblesolutionisthataprivatefoundationbesetupandfundedbydonors.Counsellingandprogramscouldbeavailablethroughthatinthelongtermofferedtothosewhowereseverelyimpacted.Theydeservethisatleast.IfthatwereapproachweretobetakentheplanningshouldstartnowwhilethemomentumoftheTRCisstillstronganditsresourcesavailable.TheoptionoftryingtostartsomethingafewyearsfromnowafteralullthatinducesintransigenceandlongaftertheTRCprocesshasrunitscoursewhenitisrealizedtheneedcontinuesisnotagoodone.PhotoStevenLeeCelebratedNorthernAuthorRichardVanCampaddressesaclassofGrade4studentsatDeninuSchoolinFortResolutionaspartofatourthroughtheSouthSlaveschooldistrictlastweek.VanCampledwritingworkshopsandsharedstoriesfromhislatestyouthnovelLittleYouwithstudentsinFortResolutionFortSmithandLutselKe.
