9TuesdayAugust52014izzlesdespiteforestresfollowedbyswimracesandtheunusualandcrazypooltoyracewhereparticipantsridetheirinatabletoyofchoicethroughtherapidsthisyeartherewerethreegiantswans.Ofcoursethepaddlersalsoshowedofftheirskillswhilecompetingincanoesurfandrescuekayakfreestylero-deosanddownriverraces.Saturdaynightwaslledwithmusicanddanceduringabeach-themedpartyatRoaringRapidshall.ThebeachpartythisyearwasahugesuccessforusCtsaid.Weveneverrunthebeachpartyasafund-raiserbeforebutthisyearwereallyappreciatethelittlekickthatthisgaveus.Sundaystartedonamoresoothingnotewithamorn-ingyogasessionbytheriverbeforecompetitions.Guidedhikesledspectatorstoaperchalongtheriverwheretheycouldwatchtheadvancedkayakersbattleeachotherinadownrivergiantslalomrace.Forthersttimethisyearstand-uppaddleboardSUPjoustingtournamentswereheldoneforadultsandoneforyouth.Thehand-heldendsoftheSUPselongatedpaddleswereenhancedwithfoampoolnoodlesusedtotrytoknockopponentsofftheirboards.ThefestivalhelditsofcialcloseonSundaynightwithanawardseveningandsteakdin-neratQueenElizabethParkalong-runningtradition.Ctwasappreciativeofthemanyfundsandprizesdonatedfortheweekend.Shenotedthepositivecommunity-buildingopportunitythattheweekendprovidedandsaidshewasproudofthestimulationitprovidedtolocalbusinesseswithsomanypeoplecomingtotheeventfromoutoftown.laysonthewaves.BenLinakercamedownfromYellowknifetosurftherapids.TheFortSmithPaddlingClubleftandSmithsLandingFirstNationteamgoheadtoheadduringthevoyageurcanoeraceonFridaynishingjusttwosecondsapart.RobynBrownofFortSmithreignsvictoriousduringaheatofthebrand-newstand-uppaddleboardSUPjoustingcompetitionatthisyearsfestival.ThebeginnerpaddlernishedsecondinthecompetitionbehindLukeVollmerhaus.AconvoyofgiantinatableswansknownastheswanvoycarriesaloadoffestivalparticipantsdownriverthroughtherapidsduringPaddlefestknownforitsunconventionalpooltoyandbeachballraces.PaddlefestcoordinatorGenevieveCtstayedonthemicmostoftheweekendgivingcommentaryontheracesandotherevents.
