ArtsCultureMusicFestivals11TuesdayAugust122014Enterprisehosts16thannualGatewayJamboreeByDALICARMICHAELDespiteroadclosuresandspotsofrainyweathermusicloversfromallovernorthernAlbertaandtheNorthwestTerritoriescongregatedinEnterprisethispastweekendforthe16thannualGatewayJamboree.Over300peopleattendedthefestivalthisyearcreat-inganatmospherethatwasatoncecomfortableandwel-comingforall.ItbringsalotofpeopleintoourcommunitytokindofseewhatEnterpriseisallaboutsaidWinnieCadieuxoneoftheeventsleadorganizers.Itbringsbusinesstoourlocalbusi-nessesanditalsokindofbringsthecommunityto-getherthroughvolunteer-ingandjustknowingthattheresadayofcelebra-tionthattheycanjustsitandrelaxandenjoyallthegreatmusicandotherfestivities.OnceagainthejamboreewasemceedbyPatBurkewhoentertainedthecrowdsbetweensets.Almost20groupsmountedthestagetoentertaintheaudiencehailingfromasfarsouthasHighLevelandasfarnorthasTsiigehtchic.RegularperformerslikeNorthCountryRockandCharlieHardistywerejoinedbynewcomerslikeFortSmithsownyoungrapperJomeiNewkirkandhisfatherTalliswhobleweveryoneawaywiththeirtightrhymesandJomeissmoothsaxaphoneplaying.Vendorslinedtheedgesofthepartygroundssell-inghomebakedgoodstra-ditionalcraftsandspecialbowsandhairpieces.RafesandbingowererunalldaywiththegrandprizebeingaHawthorneelectricguitartakenhomebythefortuitousCraigMcMaster.Childrenwereprovidedwithplentyofactivitieswithcraftsandfacepaint-ingstationssetupunderaspecialkidstentgamesandabouncycastlereadyforthemtotackleinbetweenrainshowers.Bunnocktournamentscar-riedonasbandsjammedinthebackground.AccordingtoCadieuxRussiansoldiersusedtoplaythegamewiththeanklebonesofhorsesandcows.TheactivitycombineselementsofhorseshoesandbowlingasteamsoffourtaketurnstossingabonemadeofplasticintheEnterpriseiterationinanattempttoknockovertheotherteamsboneslinedupinarow30feetaway.Itsjustadayoffunwedonthaveanycompeti-tionsoranything.YoujustsitbackrelaxandenjoyCadieuxsaid.Thereslotsforeverybody.Theycanjustchoosebetweensittingandrelaxingorjoininginsomeoftheevents-nopressure.PatBurkeclosedoutthefestivalforanotheryearwitharockingjamsessionjoinedonstagebyotherperformersfromthroughouttheday.AndrewDeedza81ofMeanderRiverAlta.jigsupastormtothetunesoftheddle.DakotaSteinwand3getsherfacepaintedinthekidstentjustoneofthemanyactivitiessetupforchildren.MathewGauthiertakesaturntossingaplasticboneduringthebunnocktournamentaRussiangamethatcombineselementsofhorseshoesandbowling.JomeiNewkirk13helpshisdadTallisandlittlebrotherZamanbringsomerapandrootstotheJamboreemixingupthesoundofthemainlybluesandrockandrollfestival.CharlieHardistyjamsoutonhisfantasticddlegettingthecrowdupontheirfeetinfrontofthestage.PhotosDaliCarmichael
