StrongmansportsintroducedtoTsiigehtchicCanoeDays8TuesdaySeptember22014SPORTSRECREATIONCANOEDAYSByDALICARMICHAELThecommunityofTsiigehtchicjoinedto-getherforaweekendoffriendlycompetitionasitcelebratedthe23rdannualCanoeDaysAug.22to24.Musicplayedinthebackgroundaslocalspar-ticipatedinphysicalcompetitionsduringthedayliketheclassiccanoeracesandjiggingcontests.NeweventswereaddedtothelineupthisyearwithastrongmancompetitionintroducedbyoneoftheeventorganizersWilliamStorr.Storrsaidthenewestgamewaspopularandwellreceived.IwentdowntoFortGoodHopeacoupleofweeksagoandItooksomekidsdownforthehandgamestournamentandtheyhadabunchofeventsthereStorrsaid.Someofthemhappenedtobethestrong-mancompetitionsandithadaprettygoodturnoutandpeoplewereinterestedsoIjustmadeupalittlecourseandtriedit.AlsonewtothisyearsCanoeDayswasafour-persontriathlon.Teamsconsistedofonerunneronecyclistandtwocanoeistswhowerecheeredonduringeachlegoftheracebytheirteammembers.Storrsaidtherewerenoreallosersthatdayhintingthattheeventwasmoreaboutcamaraderiethancompetition.EddieCookanddrummerstraveledtothecommunityfromFortGoodHopetoenter-tainthecrowdswhileBrandonFirthandhisbandfromFortMcPhersonscoredtheannualoldtimedanceandjiggingcontests.ItwasalotoffuntherewasalotofpeopleanditsgoingtobehappeningfromnowonStorrsaidlookingtowardthefuture.Weregoingtohostbigeventsandtrytobringpeo-pleoutfromtheothercommunities.DangDangGrubenshowshismightintherstCanoeDaysstrongmancompetition.Athleteshadtotipoveragratertirevetimesbeforecarryingheavyweightsfora100metres.CompetitorsshakehandsaftercompetingintheCanoeDaystriathlon.AthletesracetobenumberoneintheCanoeDaystriathlonaneventthatwasaddedtothecelebrationforthefirsttimethisyear.ShaylaSnowshoepusheswithallherstrengthinthestrongwomancompetition.Snowshoecameinfirstplaceshowingthatshewasindeedthestrongestwoman.AnathleteghtsthroughthepainwhilecompetinginoneofthedayscanoeracespaddlinghardalongtheArcticRedRivertowardsthegreatMackenzieRiver.PhotosLawrenceNorbertTsiigehtchicCharterCommunity
