iallyfortheyoungwhorepresentthefastestgrowingsegmentofthecountryspop-ulationPrenticesaid.Overthedecadeaheadsome400000Aboriginalyouthwillenterthejobmarket.ThisistheverydefinitionofpotentialnotonlyforAboriginalcommunitiesbutalsoforCanadahesaid.Healsotouchedonthedutytoconsultandaccommodate.AsheseesitthatdutywascreatedbyjudgestoensureFirstNationshadaseatatthetablewhendecisionsaremadeaboutresourcedevelopment.Itwasmeanttocarryusforwardhesaid.Itwasnotmeanttoserveasamechanismtoblockproj-ectsvetodevelopmentorleaveFirstNationsincon-tinuingpoverty.Ithinkthisissometimeslosttodaybythoseonbothsidesofthetablewhoseethesedutiesasalegalgameofcatandmouse.HealsoremindeddelegatesthatwhenhewasministerofIndianAffairsheusedtosaythatalthoughhelikedhisjobhedratherbetheministerofAboriginalInc.Somebristledatthatcor-porateremark.OneOntariochiefspeakingfromtheoorsaidlaterhewasabbergastedbyPren-ticesoverallmessage.ThoseresourcesdonotbelongtoCanadahesaid.ThereisnocertaintyinCanadawithoutFirstNa-tionsconsent.PrenticeurgesFirstNationstoseizethedayatnationalassemblyPhotoMaryWaldenFormerIndianAffairsministerJimPrenticepeddleshispro-developmentmessagetotheAssemblyofFirstNationsdelegatesinWhitehorselastweek.
