ov-ernmentintroducedaNorthernStrategyaimedatfosteringapositiveinvestmentclimateintheNorththatproducesjobseconomicgrowthandlong-termprosperity.Alotofworkhasbeendoneinrecentyearstowardsregu-latoryimprovementsintheNWT.ItisimperativethataresponsivepredictableandtimelyregulatorysystembeputinplacetoensuredevolutionintheNWTwillbesuccessful.ItmustsafeguardtheNorthsenvironmentandheritageandensuremeaningfulAboriginalconsultation.TheNWTisonthevergeofremarkablechanges.InlivingmemorytheNWThasevolvedfromaterritorygovernedbyaTerritorialCouncilandpow-erfulCommissionerappointedbyafederalMinistertoafullyelectedLegislativeAssemblyandCabinetsoontoinheritfullcontrolovertheterritoryslandsandresources.ThisisatrulyexcitingmilestoneThisistheNorthstimetorealizeitsfullpotentialforthebenetofallNWTresi-dentsandallCanadiansThePrimeMinistersummarizedthisvisionbestwhenhesaidduringarecentNortherntourToseethefutureofCanadalookNorth.Hon.DennisPattersonSenatorNunavutCanadasfutureistheNorth
