FortProvidenceschoolvandalizedwithpaintDisastrousmomentturnstocommunitybuildingexercise14TuesdayAugust192014CrimeVandalismByDALICARMICHAELWhatcouldhavebeenadevastatingeventturnedintoadayofcommunitybuildingasmembersofFortProvi-dencecametogethertocleantheDehGahschoolafteritwasvandalized.AnindividualorgroupofassailantsbrokeintothebuildingsometimeduringtheeveningofAug.11beforetakingseveralvatsofpaintandpouringthemthrough-outtheschool.Someonebrokeintotheschoolandbasicallytookpaintputitonadollyandtippedthedollydownsothatpaintdrippedalloverthehall-waysaidJimSnidertheschoolsvice-principal.Hedescribedthedamagesayingthatthevandalstoppedoffatclassroomsthrowingpaintontiledandcarpetedoorsbeforedamagingteach-erscomputers.TheyalsogotintotwoMaccomputerlabsandpouredthepaintontopofallthecomputersandkey-boardsbeforesplatteringpaintalloverthegym.ThegoodnewsisaftertheRCMPallowedusbackintotheschool30peoplefromthecommunitycameinandhelpedcleananditwasjustwonderfulSnidersaid.Everybodyworkedtogethersidebysidecleaning.Thecastofcleanersincludedsomestudentsparentsteach-erseldersandevenprominentcommunitymemberslikeMLAMichaelNadliandDehGahChiefJoachimBonnetrouge.Withtheexceptionofthecarpetsandsomeofthecom-putersSnidersaidthedam-agewasntasbadasitcouldhavebeenthankstotheef-fortsofthecommunity.Mostofthepaintwasscrapedofftheoorsandthewallsandevenpeeledoffofthecomputers.Wehadladiesthattooktheirneedleworkingneedlesandtheyactuallywerepickingatthekey-boardandpickinglittlelittlebitsofpaintoffSnidersaid.TheDehGahbandorga-nizedcommunitybarbecuesforthevolunteersfeedingthemlunchanddinnerastheyworked.OnthemorningofAug.14someoftheeldersreturnedtotheschooltoholdsmudgingceremonieswiththestudentsthroughoutdifferentpartsofthebuilding.Thiswasntthefirsttimetheschoolhasbeenbrokeninto.TherehavebeenotherincidentsoverthesummeraswellSnidersaid.AnRCMPinvestigationintothevandalismisongoingwithassistancefromtheForensicIdentificationsectionfromYellowknife.InthemeantimeSniderandtherestoftheschoolarefocusedonthesilverliningofthesituationSomethingthatwasawfulactuallybroughttheschoolandthewholecommunitytogetherhesaid.Itwasreallyamazing.FindoutwhatsgoingonTheNorthernJournalCheckoutThepaperisalpacadwithnewsPhotoscourtesyofJimSniderDehGahChiefJoachimBonnetrougegetsdownanddirtytohelpcleantheschool.AteamofvolunteersfromthecommunityofFortProvidencehelpscleanaclassroomafteritwassplatteredwithpaintbyanunknownvandalonAug.11.
