20TuesdayAugust192014ReadallaboutitThreequartersofCanadians73innon-urbancentresreadacommunitynewspaperaccordingtothe2013studyConnectingtoCanadianswithCommunityNewspapers.ThesurveywasmanagedbyTotumResearchonbehalfoftheCanadianoftheGovernmentofCanadathroughtheCanadaPeriodicalFundoftheDepartmentofCanadianHeritage.TelephoneinterviewswereconductedThestudywasdesignedtomeasurereadershipofcommunitynewspapersinnon-urbancentresacrossCanadaandexaminedreasonsforreadingcommunitynewspapers.Atotalof1000telephoneinterviewswereconductedwithadultsaged18orolderthatlivedinareaswithpopulationlessthan100000servedbycommunitynewspapers.FiveregionswereselectedABSKMBNorthernONNSand200interviewswereconductedwithineach.Theresponserateofthestudywas43.2.saidtheirreasonforreadingcommunitynewspaperswasforLocalNewsorLocalEventsarereadingfortheAdvertisingortheFlyersInsertsarelookingfororEmploymentadsThesteadyreadershipsuggeststhatcommunitynewspaperscontinuetohavestrongreadershipintodaysnewmedialandscape.Communitynewspaperscontinuetoremainrelevanttolocalresidentsfornewsinformationandadvertising.Communitynewspaperreadershipremainsstrong-
