8TuesdaySeptember302014ByMEAGANWOHLBERGTwoformerNHLhockeyplayersvisitedthebirthplaceoftheirgreatgamelastweekstoppinginDelineNWTfortheweekendtolmatelevisionshowforWildTVandwhackthepuckaroundwithlocals.GreatBearLakehasyettofreezeoverforthewinterallowingplayersBrendanMor-risonandRobNiedermayertogetonthewatertodosomeworld-classtroutshingforahalf-hourepisodeofSportFishingAd-venturesthatwillairinthenewyear.Morrisonwhoco-hoststheshowbyMoun-tainViewProductionsvisitedthey-incom-munitywithNiedermayerandtheshowspro-ducerMikeBemisterfortwoandahalfdaysmeetinglocalleadersandplayingagameofpickuphockeywithyouthinthegymbeforecommunitybingo.AccordingtoBemisteritisgoingtobeoneofthebestepisodesintheshowshistory.ThepeopleofDelinewereverygracioushostsandtheyshowedusareallygoodtimeanditwasjustauniqueexperiencetogetuptotheNorthhesaid.IvewantedtogothereforalongtimeandsodidBrendananditwasjustverycooltoseethebeautyoftheplaceandjustexperiencebeingupthere.BemistersaidtheseedofDelinewasplantedinMorrisonsheadwhenhehearditwasthebirthplaceofhockey.Themoretheylearnedaboutthecommunitythemoreitseemedlikeanidealplacetogo.AfterarrivinginthecommunityandmeetingwithlocalsincludingChiefLeon-ardKennythetriosetoffwithlocalguidesGeorgeBatonandMikeTanitontoGreyGooseLodgewheretheycaughtahaulofsh.Be-mistersaidtheyknewrightawaytheymadetherightchoice.Theshingwasgreat.Wegotlotsofactionandtouswewereprettyblownawaybythesizeofthem-20pounds15pounds-buttothelocalsthoseareapparentlysmallshBemistersaidwithalaugh.WewerehappynonethelessbutIdontthinkweimpressedthemverymuchwithourshingskills.HalfwaythroughthedaytheguidestreatedtheTVcrewtoalunchoffriedGreatBearLakeshandbushcoffeeontheshoresofthehugelake.Itwasjustanawesomeexperiencedrinkingthecoffeeandeatingtheniceshore-cookedshBemistersaid.HesaidDelinewasuniqueinthatratherthanheadingouttoanisolatedlodgesome-whereinthewildernessthehostsgottoin-teractwiththecommunityandmakethataprominentfeatureoftheepisode.Thehighlightofthevisitwastheoorhockeygameattheschool.EhtseoAyahprin-cipalTrentWaterhousesaidthekidshadagreattimebeingabletomeetsomeformerNHLprosandgoldmedalwinnersbutsaidtheeventwaslikelyevenmoreexcitingforthedadsanduncleswhoremembercheeringfortheNiedermayerbrothersinthe90sandwhogotinonthepickupactionalongwiththekidsonMondaynight.Apartfromlmingandshingthethreealsohelpedoutthecommunitybyparticipat-inginafundraisingpokertournamentanddonatingtheirwinningstothelocalgirlsvol-leyballteamwhichisraisingmoneytoheadtotheSpikeIttournamentinYellowknife.TheprojectwassponsoredbytheregionalofceofIndustryTourismandInvestmentalongwithGreyGooseLodgeandNWTTourism.BemistersaidtheexperiencehasdenitelyputtheNWTontheradaroftheshowbuthesaysitwillbehardtoduplicatetheexperience.ImsureDelineisprettyhardtotop-Idontknowhowyoucouldtopit-butweredenitelyintocheckingouttherestoftheNorthhesaid.SeasonthreeofSportFishingAdventureswillaironWildTVeverySundaystartinginJanuary.TheDelineepisodewilllikelyscreeninFebruaryorMarch.FormerNHLersvisitbirthplaceofhockeyforshingshowARTSCULTURETELEVISIONPhotocourtesyofMountainViewProductionsByMEAGANWOHLBERGTheoldtimereelsjigsandwaltzestra-ditionallyfueledbyddlesthroughouttheNorthechoedoffthewallsofHayRiversEcoleBorealeovertheweekendduringatwo-daycamporganizedbytheKoleCrookFiddleAssociation.PlayersofallskilllevelsspenttheweekendwithrenownedCanadianddlinggreatsGor-donStobbeoftheMaritimesandJJGuyofSaskatchewanalongwithlocallegendLindaDufortlearningoldtimetraditionalmusicwithaNortherntwistaccordingtoDanaAn-eliunasamemberoftheKoleCrookboard.ForAneliunasthecampisaboutmorethansimplypassingonanimportantpieceofNortherntraditionitsaboutculturalandcognitivedevelopmentofyouthintheNorthwestTerritoriesasmuchasitisfortheenjoyment.Musicisatypeofliteracyshesaid.Itdoeswonderfulthingstothebrain...Musicissuchanimportantpartofyourdevelop-mentnotjustyourculturalbutmentalandemotionaldevelopment.Ithinkitssogoodonsomanylevels.Probablythekidswhosticktoddlingitprobablyspillsoverastoatten-tionfocusandallthatandyouknowjustthedexterityofusingtheirngers-thataffectsyourbrainespeciallyyoungkidswhoareatthestagewheretheirprintingiswobbly.TheKoleCrookFiddleAssociationisaimedatpreservingandpromotingtheartofddleplayingespeciallyinremoteNortherncom-munitieswherethereisanabsenceofquali-edinstructors.TheorganizationisnamedafterthelateCrookofHayRiverwhopassedawayatage25.ConsideredamusicalgemthetalentedyoungddlertraveledacrosstheNWTteach-ingtheinstrumenttootherNorthernyouthmanyofwhomtodaycreditCrookfortheirtalents.ApartfromthecampDufortalsoorga-nizesaddlingclubattheBackEddyres-tauranteverysecondSundayanddoessomeworkinschoolsbutAneliunassaiditwilltakemoresupportfromtheschoolboardstohaveddlingcomebackinfullforcethewayitwasonceuponatimeinHayRiver.Aslongasitsintheschoolsitsreallystrong.Whenitsdoneafterschoolyourecompetingwithallthesportsandevery-thingshesaid.Stillthereareadedicatedhandfulofyoung-sterswhoareinspiringinalltheactivitiestheytakeonincludingddlingshesaid.IseetheselittlekidstrudgeoverfromHarryCamsellandP.A.PrincessAlexan-draSchooltoEcoleBorealeinthesnowin
