alstothehungrythreedaysaweekbutcoordinatorLauraRosesaysitsnotapermanentsolutiontoagrowingprobleminthecommunity.WatchmenprogramtoreflectDeneconservationvaluesContinuedfrompage1.RepresentativesfromboththeB.C.CoastalStewardshipNetworkandThaideneNenewillbeatthisweeksworkshopinFortSimpsontomakepresentationstothegroup.Onthethirddayoftheworkshopgovern-mentandNGOrepresentativesareinvitedtoattendtotalkaboutpotentialpartnershipsmovingforward.Theworkshopisbeinghostedatthelocalhighschoolinordertoalsoencourageyouthparticipationinthediscussion.PASworkonholdWhileworkunderthePAShaslargelybeenputonicebytheterritorialgovernmentinordertonishimplementingdevolutionDFNdecidedtogettoworkonconservationtoolsintheinterim.WedecidedthatwhiletheywereputtingPASonholdthatweshouldstartorganizingourselvesattheregionallevelandstarthavingthesere-allyimportantdiscussionssaidDahtiTsetsoresourcemanagementcoordinatorforDFN.ArstmeetingwasheldinTroutLakelastspringwhereparticipantsdiscussedDenecon-servationvaluesandcametotheconclusionthatlanduseinaccordancewiththeDenelawsisintegraltoprotectionoftheland.WecameoutofthatworkshopwithathemeofBeingonthelandprotectsthelandTsetsosaid.Abigpartofthefocuswasthatprotectedareasshouldplayabigroleinget-tingyouthonthelandandstrengtheningtheDenelanguageandgettingprogramsthatre-specttheDenelawsforbeingontheland.AsecondworkshopfollowedinJeanMarieRiverinAugustbringinginalloftheDehchocommunitiesandalargeyouthcontingenttofurtherdevelopthoseprinciplesinordertolaythegroundworkforalanduseprogrammingframeworkfortheentireregionnotjustthepro-tectedareasbutforthecommunitiesaswell.ThesecondthemecomingoutoftheJeanMarieworkshopwasWeneedtobewhowesayweareTsetsosaid.ShesaidDenehavebeenonthelandforthousandsofyearsandthatithasbeenwelltakencareof.IfwecreateprogramswherepeopleareonthelandaccordingtotheDenelawsthenthatskindofimplementingconservationfromtheDeneperspectiveshesaid.FilephotoVirginiaFallsinNahanniNationalParkoneoftheprotectedareasDFNhopestomanagethroughitswatchmenprogram.ENVIRONMENTPROTECTEDAREAS
