10TuesdayOctober142014October20-2510am-12pmdailyThebachaBusinessDevelopmentServicesLimitedspaceavailable.Call872-2795toregisteroremailtbds_managernorthwestel.netCelebrateSmallBusinessWeek-October19-252014FormerlySimplyAccountingTheBusinessDevelopmentandInvestmentCorporationandCanadaBusinessNWTwishentrepreneursandsmallbusinessownersahappySmallBusinessWeek.ByDALICARMICHAELAnewmultipurposefacilitythatwillfunc-tionasaskillstrainingspaceandcommu-nitycentrewascauseforcommunity-widecelebrationinGametionOct.3.Thecentrealongwithanewrehallandseveralwastemanagementprojectsisoneoftheresultstocomeoutofave-yearstrat-egyimplementedatthebeginningoftheyearmeanttoboostqualityoflifeforthepopulation.WecompiledideasforhowtheywantedthecommunitytobeandtheimprovementstheywantedtomakeoverveyearsandallofthiscamefromthepeoplesaidJudalDominicataGametisSAOwhohelpedfos-terthelong-termplan.Contributorstothestrategyrangedfromlocalgovernmentrepre-sentativestheTlichogovernmentMunicipalandCommunityAffairsMACAEducationCultureandEmploymentECEterritorialeducatorsandresidents.Atthetopofthatlonglistofimprovementswasthecreationofapost-secondaryinsti-tutionwhereGametistudentscouldattainemploymentskillswithouthavingtoleave.TheschooltookasimilarstepseveralyearsagowhenitintroducedGrades10through12curriculumsforthersttime.Webelievethateducation-skillstrain-ingorcomputertraining-isthemosteffec-tivewayofmaybereachingorattainingourdreamofagoodlifeDominicatasaid.Weconsiderthemultipurposefacilityastheheartofthecommunity.IfwecancertifyoneortwopeoplehereinGametithenwewillbesosuc-cessfulbecauseimprovingtheireducationwillimproveeverything.Ifthatbuildingcanstayinthecommunityfor50yearsyoucanjustimaginetheincreaseinincome.WiththehelpofadultlearningfacilitatorsandinstructorsfromAuroraCollegethetownhopestooffertrainingformostoftheoccupationaltradeskillseverythingfromplumbingtocarpentryelectricalworktoheavydutyequipmentmechanics.Theyalsohopetotrainresidentsinbasiccomputersystemsfromdatamanagementtobookkeeping.Duringthecelebrationsveluckyadultlearnerswereawardedrefurbishedlap-topcomputersinadditionto20refurbisheddesktopsthatwillbedistributedbythelocalgovernmentthroughoutthepopulation.AccordingtoDominicatathisactionwaspartofanannualprogramthatseesregionalMACArepresentativeSudhirJhasupplyanumberofgood-as-newcomputerstothearea.ImprovingsafetyandwastemanagementOneofthemostimmediateprioritieslistedintheve-yearstrategywastheneedforanewsewagelagoon.Toreplacetheagingwastetreatmentinfrastructurenotonebuttwonewprojectswereputinplace.Therstwasanewsewagelagoonwhichisbasedonawetlandtreatmentsystem.Withtwocellsitcanaccommodateabout13000cubicmetresofsewagewasteperyearandholdwasteforupto10monthswhenthewetlandsystemisnotactiveanecessityforthelongcoldwintersoftheNorth.Asolidwastesiteprojectisalsounderwaywhichwillholdupto36000cubicmetresonceitiscompleted.Anotherpriorityforthetownwasthees-tablishmentofarehall.Thenewfacilitymeasuresabout2400squarefeetandisacomforttooneofthecommunitieshithard-estbywildresoverthesummer.EventhoughsomeoftheinitiativeswiththewidestimpactareoutofthewayDominicatasaidthereisstillalotofworklefttodo.Overthenextfewyearshesaidthecommunitywillworktowardsincreasingavailablehous-ingalongwithseveralbeauticationprojects.GameticelebratesnewmultipurposefacilityPhotocourtesyoftheCommunityofGametiWebelievethateducation-skillstrainingorcomputertraining-isthemosteffectivewayofmaybereachingorattainingourdreamofagoodlife.JudalDominicataGametiSAOPOLITICSMUNICIPALGametiresidentstourthroughthecommunitysnewestfacilitiesincludinganewmultipurposecentreandrehallonOct.3.AllprojectsarepartofGametisve-yearimprovementstrategy.
